India recorded 161 deaths from COVID-19 on Sunday. This is the first time in around seven-and-a-half months (227 days) that the daily toll from COVID-19 had fallen below 200. The deaths during the week dropped by 14% in comparison with the previous seven days.

The last time the daily death toll was recorded below 200 was on May 28, 2020. New COVID-19 cases also dropped on Sunday, with only 16,513 infections recorded across the country, compared toover 18,000 new infections on each of the last three days.
